  • What adapter do I need to connect my RODE wireless mic to my Zoom H4N recorder?

Posted by Ryan Hailey on June 7, 2019 at 5:23 am

Hello audio professionals. I have a Zoom H4N recorder and I have a RODE Wireless.
I know that I need to plug the mic into the back of it for it to work but the mic does not fit into the jack in the back of the Zoom.
The RODE mic is too big for the jack.
Does anyone know the exact name/measurements of the adapter I need so that I might search for it online?
I’ve been surprised at how I cant find the answer to this simple question anywhere (I am not a tech person if you couldnt tell already). Thanks for any help you can provide me!

Hello Ryan and welcome to the Cow Audio Forum.

From Zoom, “The H4n provides dual inputs, both of which are combo connectors that can accept either XLR or ¼” balanced or unbalanced phone cables. They can handle both mic- and line-level signals as well as instrument-level signals from electric guitars or basses. Phantom Power of +24 or +48 volts can be applied to both inputs.”

Which Rode Wireless mic do you have and what does the cable end on the receiver look like?

Thank you for your reply. So I have a “Rode Smartlav Lavalier Microphone for iPhone and Smartphones”, which appears to have a plug that will fit into normal headphone jacks. But it is too big for the hole in the back of the ZOOM that reads EXT MIC. Does that mean I need an adapter for “headphone jacks to 1/4 inch”? What is the normal measurement for a normal headphone jack? Thank you

    Ryan,

I’m pretty sure those XLR jacks on the Zoom also have a hole in the center that accepts 1/4″ plugs.
