what about avi files in project media
I am wondering if it is a good idea to use an avi file in the project media? One is an audio file and the other is apparently a video. The audio could just a well be a wav. My last render crashed again and I have to find out why. Woe is me.

AVI is just a wrapper for a wide variety of file types (DV-AVI, Divx, Xvid, etc.) so you need to be more specific.
If you’re referring to DV-AVi as captured from tape, Vegas has been dealing with these for a very long time without any problems whatsoever.
BTW, AVI is a video file, not an audio file. -
That explains why various avi files render differently. dv is fairly fast but uncompressed avi is the one so slow. Thats what it says in the window anyway.
