Western Digital for FCP
Hi,
I was wondering if anyone here has previously worked with Western Digital MyBook Studio 1/2/4 TB HD and can give an opinion on it.
I’m considering buying it for it’s low price and FW800 and eSata ports. However, I’ve read several reviews that WD tends to crash and is not recommended for important tasks. -

My personal opinion is MyBooks for whatever reason are very flaky on Macs. We have very little success with them here.
Small Tree, WiebeTech, Maxx Digital, Sonnett, G-Tech and LaCie all sell very good solutions with multiple connections for various applications.
We run all Maxx Digital, Small Tree and WiebeTech solutions here for our primary media storage needs. We have a couple of MyBooks around and we just use them usually to send media to another production facility.

I’ve looked into LaCie 4big Quadra, have you or anyone here used it? My needs are ProRes 422 HD usually.

I have 9 WD Mybooks that I use for archiving.
only 1 of them gave me trouble but I didn’t lose any data.

I’m using a 6TB lacie big Quadra. I intended to use it as media storage, but I just use it as time machine for my internal RAID.
The eSATA connection on my machine gets about 80Mbps…my internal RAID is getting about 280Mbps
