Putting together a demo from miscellaneous AVI footage from various contributors — some wide, some not, some captured by my camera (from VHS tapes), some given to me as AVI files. I didn’t worry about how best to import the different types of footage because it all looked fine when dropped into my timeline. The widescreen footage had black bars on the top and bottom, and all proportions looked fine. But when I export the whole sequence as a Microsoft DV AVI, some of the wide footage (from just one contributor who gave me AVI files) gets smushed. The black bars get wider and the proportions get distorted. Just for five or ten seconds in the middle of the scene, and then, after an edit point, the same scene corrects itself. The weird thing is that most of the footage from that same contributor looks fine — with widescreen in proper proportion. The clip properties look identical between segments that exported properly and those that didn’t. I’ve tried multiple exports. Any ideas? Hopefully a solution will not involve re-importing the footage, since I’ve invested several hours of editing work in these clips. Thanks!

Ik had something like that once. Right-click the footage in the bin -> ‘interpret footage’ then choose the right format.

    Hope that works!

    Screw it, let’s do it!

That did it. I don’t know what was going on, but thanks a bunch, Marc. The interpret footage approach has solved past problems for me as well. I’ll have to remember it in the future. Kind of like re-booting maybe. Pete

    Hay
I had the same problem, so I trief to solve it the way you told, and when I clicked ok (to put it in widescreen) the program shutted of hisself….
the thing is that at first I didn’t placed ly files in a bin, and now I did, so does that make a problem??
