    Hi guys (and gals),

Im experiencing some really weird blur type effect when rendering a sequence from AE. And Im really not that sure hows to describe it!
Basically, I have a template setup in AE for the endframe of the promos we make. I export the required clip (5 secs or so) from my edit in FCP7 and import it into AE to setup the graphics.

Everything in AE seems fine, the RAM preview looks good, everything is sweet, but when i export the file out i get this weird blurry effect whenever there’s heaps of motion. When the shot is static, it all looks fine, but when there’s alot of motion in the shot it renders all freaky.

I’ve been rendering Animation with an alpha channel, but have tried all sorts of codecs, and TIFF sequences, etc. all with the same problem.
The blurring happens when i playback the file in FCP, and when I play it through Finder/QT.
Ive tried exporting different codecs from FCP to AE, but with the same results.

The sequence doesn’t have any 3D layers, there’s no cameras, there’s no movement in the layers at all, except in the shot itself.
Its definatelty not a smooth motion blur, its very ugly and strange!

    I hope that’s clear-ish!

    Cheers,

    Andrew.

    Hi Dave,

Thanks for getting back to me.

okay, sorry should have told you specs:

    Mac OSX 10.5.8
    8Gb RAM
    AEFX CS4 9.0.2
    FCP 7

I capture the source footage from Digibeta in FCP with Blackmagic’s uncompressed 8bit codec.
Then usually i choose ‘export movie’ so it renders in the same codec.
I did however try exporting an animation test for AE, but the same thing happens.

So, yeah I have the latest CS4 update.
My Open GL is always off.
Multiprocessing is usually on, but i tried it off – same results

So, Im pretty sure the footage is as good as im gonna get.

I can’t really think of what else to try. Any more suggestions?
I can try upload an example to my vimeo page if that helps?

    Cheers again.

Hi, I just checked and there is a new blackmagic update, but it never made any difference.

Ive checked the layers and there’s no problem there.

What effects are you applying to the footage? Have you applied an effect then turned it off but have “Effects” turned to “all on” in your render settings?

Do you have Frame Blending turned on? I’ve had strange results when set to Pixel Motion sometimes, no idea why.

    Hey!!

That’s cracked it! I turned off frame blending in the output render module and bingo! thanks!

Cheers for all your help fellas!

    Andrew.

Cool, glad I could help. Sometimes motion blur and frame blending don’t play nice together.
