  • Weird problem with 3D camera keyframes

Hello, I am fairly new to AE and haven’t had this problem in a couple of months. I am sure that this is my fault (not understanding how to work AE) and not a bug in the program. Here is my problem…

I have made a 4:3/23.98 composition in which I have four objects (really 8 because 4 of them act as reflections.) What I want is the camera to start far away from the objects, dolly quickly towards the first two, do a slow dolly when they come into focus, then zoom past them to the second set of objects. It seems easy enough to setup and animate right?

I setup all the objects and camera as it should be (auto-orient off) and started the first position key frame with the camera far away from the first set of objects. I moved forward one second in the timeline and moved the camera forward just to the point where the first objects come into focus. Then, I moved forward one more second and added a keyframe for what should have been the last frame before the camera quickly dollies to the second object. My problem is, between the second and third keyframe it has, I’m guessing, a funny bezier curve. The curve makes the camera move forward past the 3rd keyframe and then back to the the 3rd. Below is a screenshot of what’s happening–though it’s normally on a straight line I pulled it out to the side so you can see what’s happening.

(Note: This is the 3rd keyframe you are seeing)

What am I doing wrong? If I need to make anything clearer, please let me know!

    Thanks,

    Matthew Rogers

Highlight Your Keyframes and ‘right click’.. keyframe interpolation and Choose Linear.
Aaron R. has a podcast talking about this very thing.

    “kis” it
    Keep it Simple

At any time that you feel uncomfortable with the bezier curve that AE hands you, you can select the pen tool (the Adobe non-standard ‘G’ key) and hold Opt/Alt and adjust the curve manually.
