  • Weird problem when opening preferences dialog

When I am trying to open the preferences dialog after a while, I’ll get this message:

I do only not get this message (but the normal dialog instead) when opening the preferences dialog right after AE started. But once I open or save a project and try to open the preferences dialog then, I’ll get that error dialog.

What I tried to do, it did not help:
    – deleting my preferences file since I thought it was broken (was also trying the STRG+SHIFT+ALT on startup + manually deleting the files in C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Adobe\After Effects\8.0 )
    – Creating a new Windows user and tried it with that

I’m on Windows XP Pro x64. I can’t remember having had this problem before, but once again, I do not know what I could possibly have changed to cause this problem. I’m still hesitant to re-install the complete adobe suite just in order to try to solve the problem. My AE version is 8.0.2.27!

Another note: I installed the German version of the suite but I start AE in English nevertheless. However, this error comes also when starting the normal German version, and also this box is just the same (its content is not localized to German).

    Any ideas?

I’ve never experienced this…but I know I’ve gotten an error with the “cannot parse this file” when I try to import CMYK files.

I don’t even know if that is relavent in this case…wierd one!

Are you starting with a blank project, do you have assets imported when getting this message?

Regardless wether I open a project that has files in it or whether I just start AE and then Save an empty project, if I then (afterwards) try to open the preferences dialog, I’ll get that error dialog.
