Weird problem capturing 24pA in FCP 4.5 HD
I shot some footage today in 24pA mode with the DVX100 (my school’s camera) and started to edit it on the school’s computer (Dual 2GHz G5 1 GB RAM running FCP 4.5 HD). I put the tape in the deck (JVC dual miniDV and VHS deck) and opened the Log and Capture window. The presets for capturing didn’t list a 24p source, but there was one labeled DV NTSC 48 kHz Advanced (2:3:3:2 Pulldown). I figured that must be the 24pA capture setting, so I chose that one (also, in the Easy Setup there were only four presets listed, and none of them were 24p or 24pA). I started capturing, and the system froze, then quit. I restarted the system, and the weird thing is that now my video drive shows only 101 mb free (whereas before it was 101 GB).
I’m not sure what the culprit is here. This is a commuity computer, so it gets used by a lot of different people. However, I have never had a problem editing anything before. I have never used the 24pA mode on the DVX, though. I’ve always used 24p regular. The reason I was using the 24pA is I’m doing a music video (although this is just the test footage, not the actual video right now) that will require extensive compositing work, and I figured that 24pA shoots in true 24p mode, therefor making for cleaner composites (correct me if I’m wrong).
Anybody have any idea what could be wrong here? Thanks.

OK, well I finally got things to work. I found the preset that has 24p with advanced pulldown, and the capture works just fine. Although the video drive still says it has 101 mb, which is weird (I wrote the video to the startup disk, which apparently had 190 GB free).
