    Hi all,

I’m pretty new to using DSLR to video still, and I have a question that will probably be so simple to answer, you’ll roll your eyes and tut at me.

I keep getting a weird issue when I use the camera in low-light. I think I’ve just not quite picked up the whole ISO/aperture thing yet.

I shot this video in Rome, at the Pantheon. The light was fairly low, and I got this weird kerning/strobing effect (scrub to 50 seconds in, and look at the walls to see what I mean, also the cat location had the same issue) – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JY6XlimqYSM&list=UUAKtEe1jKT3U2AJeCiobU1w&index=4&feature=plcp

What is this exactly? Is it that I need to have the aperture wider?

It’s really annoying, as I want to take this out on a shoot soon, but I need to nail down the camera a bit more.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

Oh yeah, the lenses used were the kit lens, and the nifty fifty. I was using a flat picture style (Cinestyle).

What framerate and shutterspeed were you working with?
Seems to me like the frequency of lights (or rather the electrical power) in the Pantheon and the cat place and your framerate/shutterspeed didn’t match.
The lights should have had 50Hz, since it’s Italy, and if you were shooting with 60fps or a shutterspeed other than a multiple of 50, those effects occur.
