    Hi all!

We’re running FCP 6.0.2, XSAN 1.4 on an 8-core Intel with OSX 10.4.11. Hardware is a Kona3 with the latest software.

We’re laying off conformed reels with VFX to grade for a feature film (at 1080/24p) and have come across a really weird error.

When playing back across a cut, *some* clips appear to be out of sync. I say some, because usually it’s not obvious – however we’ve got an externally supplied shot with the leader right up next to the first frame of picture, and when we play it back we get one frame of the leader. Frame-stepping across the cut shows it perfect; playing back we seem to be a frame out. Hence we’re not confident about any of the cuts. The shot was supplied on HD-D5 and has only been digitised and inserted into the sequence – it’s effectively a raw, rushes clip exhibiting the issue.

We’ve found that ‘baking in’ the cuts by exporting a self-contained QT and re-importing it fixes the issues – however this is a pretty slow and laborious process and is starting to eat our disk storage.

We’ve set to use Safe RT and the issue is still exhibited, and we’ve also tried disabling the hardware, still seeing it.

Has anybody seen anything like this before? Or do my hands suddenly have a magnetic field in them?!?

    Thanks a lot in advance.

Update: – now the burn-in is exhibiting the problem as well! Suspecting a hardware problem we’re restarting the entire facility.

Thanks for the reply. FYI, in the end it was a reliable 1 frame out so we fixed it by slipping; I’m still curious to know exactly what was going on though (and to avoid the 4am finishes as much as possible!).

We digitised it via HD-SDI at 1080/24psf with RS-422 deck control from the deck – it was a standard player/recorder, not sure of the exact model.
