  • Weird frame size issues with MPEG IMX codec

    Hi all,

Hope somebody can help me with this issue…

Have been using FCP7 but am moving over to Premiere Pro because I don’t like the new FCP and Premiere’s After Effects integration will speed up my workflow and reduce some disk space…

It is a file for broadcast here in Australia. I need the dimensions to be 1024×576 16:9 square pixels with MPEG IMX codec. No matter what I try with premiere, the output file is coming out at 720x576px 4:3. Note After Effects seems to do similar things with MPEG IMX. Sequence settings are Pro Res 422, 1920×1080 square pixel.

Does anybody have any thoughts on how to fix this/what is causing it?

I’m at a loss here, and any extra rendering/converting steps are going to offset moving to premiere and i guess if there isn’t a solution to this issue there is no point moving over…

Here’s a screenshot so you can see the output file and render settings.

    Kind Regards,

[Matt Dean] ” I need the dimensions to be 1024×576 16:9 square pixels with MPEG IMX codec. “

There is no way you are able to do that because the codec is strictly specced to be squeezed to 720×576 with a 16:9 pixel aspect ratio. The Quicktime version of the codec somehow let’s you input a frame size but it won’t do anything.

    Hi Tero,

    Thanks for your reply!
I was thinking that might be the case – but really hoping for a workaround.

So, in FCP7 I can export a .MOV file using IMX625/50 at whatever frame size i specify.

Any idea why can FCP do it but not Premiere?

Well it seems that FCP let’s you do a non-standard ie. wrong file and Premiere let’s the codec do it the way that the codec is specified to.

Well, now all hell has broken loose!

So, that Premiere specific issue is now across the board with Apples latest “Pro Apps” codec update.

Have been using the older version of IMX (as this is my broadcast codec) up until now, flawlessly with FCP.

Unfortunately, due to Adobe CC i’ve been forced to “downgrade” to OSX10.9 Mavericks, which means I have lost all 32bit finder support, which means i HAVE to use the new IMX codec to be able to play my broadcast files (that are now in the wrong aspect due to the new version of the codec)

Surely we’re not the only Australian production house having issues here???
