  • weird distortions after rendering.

Hi I’m rendering out a little film.
Some of the shots are about 200 MB.
I rendered out a sequence at the settings: HD 1920×1080-60p.

I got these weird distortions, like fringes or rings. I took some screen shots to show.

The distortions are faintly faintly in the source footage, but after rendering are quite severe.

If anyone could please give me some insight into what’s causing them and how to remove them or reduce them, that would be great. Maybe if I render at
HD 1920×1080-50p instead it might make a difference.

That is banding, generally due to not having enough steps in 8-bit video to represent the gradient transitions.

    Is the source footage 60P?

Try rendering in 32-bit FP (video levels) and seeing if that helps. Unless the banding is present in the source footage.

Could also try playing back in VLC just to compare.

Could try a different codec with a default profile that matches (=) the project.

Could try rendering to XDCAM-EX or 422, use VLC to check output, then use Handbreak to render to .mp4.

Yep, that is color Banding. If your source footage has it, then
not much you can do to completely remove it, even if you render
    it in 32bit.
There is however some plugins that has a Debanding filter that
can help a little bit, one such plugin i know of is Tiffen DFX 4 OFX
    for Sony Vegas.

Hi Steve Rhoden and Aaron Star,

I tried to change the properties to 32bit, but it seems I don’t have the option. Maybe because I don’t have Sony Vegas Pro?

I gave a screen shot of how it looks to me.

    Thanks for your time!

Yeah, that’s not the Pro version of Vegas, So there are limitations.
But as i said, even if you were able to change to 32bit, there may not
    be any difference.
