Wedding video too large for DVD
Hi,
I’ve made my first wedding video and have rendered it to a windows avi file. I went to burn it to disc but then found that the DVD is 4.7 GB and my file is 5.78GB!
It’s not exactly 2 hours long so I’m not sure why it’s so large 🙁 Is there any way I can redcue the file size without chopping the footage down? Is there another way I can render it that will give me a smaller file size but still be good quality??

You put MPEG-2 files on a DVD, not AVI files.
It’s better to give DVDA properly prepared MPEG-2 and AC-3 files but DVDA will accept an AVI file if you haven’t mastered the encoding processes.I do have a question for you though.
You said the file is almost 2 hr. long.
If you rendered it out as a DV-AVI (what it sould be), it should be around 25 GB. in size, not 5.78 GB. so what kind of AVI file did you render out? -

The video isn’t 2 hours long – I said “it isn’t exactly 2 hours long” meaning it’s a short video and I wasn’t sure why it was such a large file size! 🙂
I’ll change it to an MPG2 now, thank-you 🙂

dv.avi is about 13GB/hour. MPEG2 depends on the bitrate. The maximum biterate you should probably render at is 8,000,000 and at that rate you should be able to get an hour +- on a single layer DVD. I would render anything under an hour with CBR. Over an hour and you might want to start using VBR and use a bitrate calculator to find the best settings.
