Hi- Im working with video clips downloaded from the web, compiled with other video then repackaged as a podcast. Im wondering if anyone out there has experience with this type of workflow? My questions are- 1. What is the best codec for converting the web footage to use in the edit? Is the fact that most of it seems to be 15fps going to pose problems? 2. What is a good sequence setting for this? I will be working in a 320×240 frame size. 3. What is a good codec for final output? In general I have been experimenting with several variations but have not found a combination that makes FCP 5.1 happy.

    Thanks for your feedback

I always say get the origonal footage, Don’t work with compressed footage like that. If the copywright owner has given you permision to use there video then they will probably be williing to give you a copy of the origonal master.

I understand your concern about quality. This an experimental post production plan. Do you have any thoughts or answers tothe questions I posed above?

like I said before if you can get copywight permission from the people then you can probably get a copy of the master as well

We are using webcam shots from ski areas around the world. As you might guess, those images are rarely, if ever, recorded to anything like a real production format. So thanks for your responses but I was hoping to get some answers to my technical questions, not your percieved ethical issues.

The only reason I have repetdly said that you need copyright permission is because I have NEVER met anyone who wants to use clips from whe web who has the copyright permission.

Assuming that these ski resorts have given you permision to use images of there resorts they might also have some uncompress video you can use also. Anohter option would be to purchase some stock footage of ski resorts.

Using webcan footage is goiing to look terible and your final project is a refection of you. The better it looks the better you look.

If all you can get is webcam footage and you are fine with it lookiing lousy then use mpeg streem clip to convert it to a usible format, but like I said it will look terible.
