    Hello,

I am searching for an optimal codec for exporting AE animations for web. They are without backgrounds, and they have to be smaller than 500 KB. I tried some of the Media Encoder’s codecs but I can not seem to reduce the file size. They are at least 1 MB, and H.264 does not support alpha channel.

Do you recommend a source so that I can find the optimal codec? Or is there any plug-ins for this kind of exports?

    Thank you!

Field size? Frame rate? And, why an alpha channel if you’re just posting them as flat files?

    Hi Melisa,
What I’m picking up from various groups is that bitrate is a big determiner of file size. I keep trying lower bit rates until I get the size I need.
Can’t help with the alpha channel.

just use the official standard for html5 with built in alpha channel support, VP9. it also does pixel interpolation for low framerates and a thousand other things you can tweak to get that small size you need.
