ok, check this out, we did a shoot with the new P2 card cam, i think it’s panasonic anyway you can only shoot HD 720/30 using the P2 cards, all is fine we did that, we “import” all into FCP which is a pretty cool thing, way better than digitizing, however when i cut the footage into the time line I have to render the video? I have the TL set for 720 HD or HDV what ever it says it’s the only choice, whats weired is that the footage plays in the viewer window without rendering, i only have to render when i cut a shot into the TL, now a guy i called said that it should just play, any ideas, i dont want to render every shot i’ll be here till christmas, thanks.

[Andrew] ” think it’s panasonic anyway you can only shoot HD 720/30 using the P2 cards”

If it was the HVX200 there is about 80 different choices.

Again in FCP there are a lot more choices, you have to be more specific. In general the reason why you are having problems is that your timeline settings dont match your clip settings. MAKE A NEW sequence and BEFORE dragging any clips to it, make sure it’s settings match ALL those of your clips and you will not need to render

Have you tried the 720p30 easy setup? Are you sure it was 720p30 and not 720p60? If your sequence does not match your capture format you will have to render.

Hit control-q, select DVCPRO HD 720p30, MAKE A NEW SEQUENCE (very important), drop in a clip and see see what’s up then. Do not use HDV. Way different. If you don’t see 720p30, make sure you click the little “show all” box when you hit control-q.
