  • Way to dock video preview monitor on my right monitor?

Posted by Tim Neighbors on May 30, 2023 at 11:45 pm

Hi, I’m new to Davinci, coming from Vegas Video. The dual monitor layout keeps both the timeline and the video preview window on my left monitor. Is there any way to move the video preview window to my right monitor while keeping the timeline on the left? That way I can enlarge the video preview enough to see camera focus.

    Hello Tim,
yes there is. You need to go to the “Workspace” menu, go over to “Dual Screen” – which needs to be active – and there enable “Full Screen Timeline”

Thanks! That helped a lot. But on the Color Page, is there a way to move my preview monitor to my second monitor? As of now, unless I’m willing to get rid of my clips and timeline windows my preview window is barely larger than a thumbnail. Aside from getting a third monitor dedicated to a video preview, is there any way to move any of the stuff on my left monitor to my right monitor to make better use of my workspace? I’ve attached an image of my current two monitor workspace.

    Hey Tim,

You can close the clips on the main monitor and open the lightbox on the second one. That is really the only thing you can move.

Still, I would definitely advise you to buy a third monitor for a full screen preview. The viewers in davinci are not accurate.

Wow. Workspace customization should definitely be on Blackmagic’s to do list. This is kinda crazy.

And the Lightbox area is very thin, with no way to expand it? And there is some random text and a folder that is visible in a little divider line next to the Lightbox (see attached image). Is this just me? or is it like this for everyone with a second monitor?
