  • Way to change the timeline start timecode? Or Caption timecode?

Posted by Tea Blake on January 2, 2019 at 7:16 pm

We have MOVs, AC3s and Subtitle files with a start timecode of 00:59:59:00 (Aka 1 second black, then program start at 01:00:00:00) . So trying to get them to lineup in a Bluray timeline doesn’t work, as the subs want to start just past the 1h mark on the timeline, but the video automatically gets placed to start at the beginning (00:00:00:00) mark on the timeline, along with the Chapter 1 marker.

Subtitle files are .txts (Video is Prores, if that maters, 23.98). Aside from getting our guy to re-export all the subtitle files with a start time of 00:00:00:00, is there any way to change the timeline start time in Encore? Or to get the subs to line up?

I worry about anything in Encore that uses alternate timecodes. It is so picky.

One option to try: select all subtitles on the subtitle track; drag to adjust.

    Hi Stan,

Either I have a buggy version of Encore or it’s just Encore being itself, but when I select all subtitles, whether I lasoo them or literally go Edit – Select all, it seems to leave at least one behind, or re-arrange the order of at least one of them. I tried for nearly an hour and it happened every time.

I added a longer group of subtitles with some gaps. I don’t have a problem, but it is only about a 10 minute timeline.

But it shouldn’t be too big a deal to adjust the subtitle script file.

I have 13 25 minute timelines and it did it randomly – some leaving behind subtitles on some timelines and some rearranging in timelines, and some worked completely fine.

Yeah I figured we’d have to get him to adjust – just wanted to avoid that if possible as it’s an extra cost for us.
    Thanks anyway!
