I’m kind of new in playing with Particle Illusion, but I saw
a great animation and I can’t find it out how to do such thing:
like waving hair, a skirt that flows in the wind and so on.
I know how to add fireworks and sparkles and such to a picture,
but not how to do something with parts IN the picture, like hair.
Maybe I don’t have all the right emitters yet, I’ll go search
for more. Maybe I need to take out selections from a pic in for
example Paint shop pro, save those as png, and then put those with
transparant backgrounds in PI? And after the animation put all
together back in Animation shop? I have no idea.. help me?
I’ll put the picture I’m talking about here too.

There is a “flowing hair” Emitter_04_06. It’s not the same though. You can get the similar effect by using a smoke or dust emitter then in the properties – color you’ll see “get color from layer”. So the particle will use the color from your background. If you check the “update color from layer” then you’ll get the effect that smoke makes as it moves accross the picture so maybe you don’t want that. Play around with “get color from layer” it can be fun.

Thank you so much for your reply! I’ll try that out for sure!
I thought that it always affects the whole picture. On my
example you see that it’s only the hair or only the skirt.
How do I select parts so the emitter will only goes on those?

When you right click the emitter you’ll get options like make a line. Make a small line where you want the effect. (Some emitters might work if you make a point). Then play around with number and life til you get the effect. Also you might want to add blockers where you don’t want the effect to happen like only on the hair but not the dress. Be aware that blockers will use a lot of PC power so use them sparingly.

Try “Smokey dissolve get color” emitter and see the effect when the particles pick up the background color.

Ooooh great for sure I’ll try it out soon that way!
It would be so exciting to create a similar effect
as on the animation. I find it very special for sure!
I prolly first best play around with the basics before
I dare to try out such advanced techniques.
Thanks so much for all these very useful tips!
