Waves over sand
thanks in advance everyone. i got a client that wants waves washing over the sand to reveal the type then have it wash away. i saw it in a capital one spot. i know the best way to do this is 3d, but i was wondering if something similar could be done in ae. i figured a good still of sand and particular for the whitewash, but what could i use to easily control when the waves wash up and leave. it definitely does not have to be realistic, but it can’t be bad either. any suggestions would be great, thanks!

that wont bring the text in and out, but will give a great bit of realism.
with some well shot water, a good still of sand and some well done key frames, you should be able to do this without to much trouble.

thanks, that’s a great tutorial. i’m thinking that my type will just be composited on the sand, so i don’t think there will be much displacing. we’ve also figured that shooting it right would be the answer, but the agency hasn’t agreed. all of the spots we’ve done so far for this campaign have been all graphic and they really didn’t want to start introducing real elements at this time. i was hoping there was a good plugin that would work for this. thanks for pointing me to that tutorial though.

Take a look at CC Mr Mercury for the water bit. Off the bat, it renders with an alpha channel – it’ll be easy to composite your text for a reveal.
