  • Wave bug on pressing reset buttons ?

Posted by Sascha Haber on January 6, 2011 at 7:36 am

Hi guys, I am in the middle of a short movie and updated to 7.1
I noticed a strange behavior on my Wave.
When pressing the ball reset button, I reset the three color values as expected.
But when pressing the ring reset button, it resets both !?
    Is that a feature I don’t understand or a bug ?
I normally wish to tweak those independently and not reste my color adjustments when resetting the master.
The goes for all three by the way.

    Good Morning,
Tanks for pointing me to this friendly article .
    Now back to the question.
Why does the luma or master reset also resets my RGB balance ?
It doesn’t make any sense to me and I lost quite a few gradings yesterday using it accidentally .
On our Scratch or in Color it’s pretty clear to use and I really like to keep both of separate .
Also it works as expected when double clicking the Y value only in the interface afaik.
Ring reset should only reset the dial , button reset the balance.

I think the functionality you’re looking for can be enabled by clicking

“Master reset maintains RGB Balance” in the project Settings tab. From the manual:

This control defines how the panel reset buttons reset the
primary color correction. Normally, a reset will return the
primary correction values to their default values. When this
option is selected, reset will function as follows:

    1) Clicking the master reset key will reset the YRGB values so
that the overall values are kept and the ratio of YRGB to each
    other is maintained.

    2) Clicking the RGB reset button will find the average value
of RGB, and set the RGB to that value.

Well, then either my Wave is faulty or something else is not working.

    Here it comes again…
I press the lower small dot reset button and RGB resets, thats fine.
I press the upper ring reset button and I hope this would ONLY reset the overall setting, and keep the RGB balance the way it was, but it doesnt.
I would understand if it resets the dial to zero and respect the positive and negative values of the RGB balance.
    But its nulls everything.
    With or without that setting.
Can anyone with a Wave please chime in and try that ?

yes I did the test with my wave, and it behaves like you described.

It looks like “Master reset maintains RGB balance” does not work as it should, at least in 7.1
