  • Watermark on footage when I try to convert from .avi to .mov

Posted by Natasha Paulson on October 27, 2009 at 6:36 am

    Hello!

I have a client who has footage taken on his digital camera. He imported the footage onto a PC and then sent me a CD with the files on it. When I try to convert the .avi into .mov for aspect ratio purposes, all I get is the footage with a huge watermark saying “Created with Flip 4 Mac.” I need to get this footage onto a timeline in Final Cut Pro that is set for HD.

    Help! Thanks!

That means that you have a demo version of the FLIP FOR MAC Quicktime Component that allows you to see some AVI and WMV files. If you want the watermark gone, you have to buy flip4mac.

    Oh goodness.

So there is no other way to convert .avi files to .mov without buying Flip4Mac? Let me ask you this. Is there any way to get those .avi files into the correct HD aspect ratio without having to convert them through Quicktime?

    Thanks so much for responding!

I been having a look to the Telestream web site.
Flp4Mac have nothing to do with AVI files.
It makes just WMV to QT or back.
That AVI may have a WMV inside or so?
    No idea about PCs.
Open the Info Window in QT (Comm-I) and have a look to the “Compressor”.

See if you can open the avi in MPEG Streamclip. If you can, then export the avi to the QT flavor you wish.
