    Here’s my setup:
    Main workstation – Dual 2G G5 OSX 10.3.9 Blackmagic DecklinkSp videocard AE6.5 & FCP 5.0
Render Farm – various G4’s OSX 10.3.9 AE 6.5 Blackmagic codec installed.

I’m have 2 Watch Folder render problems:

    1. Sometimes one or more of the machines on the farm will render text layers as jibberish (the wrong characters) or with the text spacing messed up. In the final render the text is a jittery, jumpy mess.

    2. Occasionally I add my main workstion to the network render to speed things up. If the project contains Blackmagic captured videoclips the frames rendered on the main workstion come out darker than those rendered on the rest of the farm. The final render flickers.

All of the render farm machines have the Blackmagic codec installed.

I can’t really help with the text issue but we had trouble with gamma shifts between versions of the Blackmagic codecs, copy the codec from one machine to the others, overwriting the other file to make sure they’ve all got the same version install, sometimes there is no way to tell they’re different versions. I’d recommend doing the same thing with the fonts to make sure they’re all using exactly the same one. With any luck it’s nothing to do with the differently OS’s on the boxes. We found text tracking/kerning changes between AE6.0 and AE6.5 which was a real pain.
If you can’t fix it just try to figure out which machines render “right” or at least the same as each other and exclude others from the render, we often have to do that with our 3d render farm as sometimes a box won’t load a texture correctly.
