  • washed out clips when exported from after effects after colour correction

Posted by Margarita Kouvatsou on June 26, 2014 at 4:13 pm

    dear all,
I am using after effects cs 6 to colour correct an edit originally made with FCP7 and exported as XML with automatic duck.
When i export my sequence from After effects to quicktime (with animation codec) i find that the colours are quite different (washed out) from those appearing in my AE sequence.
Any ideas what might be causing that and what I can do to prevent it?
    Thanks in advance,
    Margarita

what format are you outputting to? Usually when using DNXHD or Prores you should select RGB levels not REC709 setting. You can find this setting under codec setting.

    hope this helps

    thanks

Hi Kevin, thank you for your answer.
I am outputting on animation codec. the only colour option i have is to preserve the RGB. have tried that but see absolutely no change.
other suggestions? it seems very strange that the coloru on the timeline and the colour of the exported movie are so different.

i’ve never had any luck with animation codec. Try other professional codec like Prores or DNXhd. you might have to download the codec pack

Anyways use I would suggest use Prores HQ or DHXHD 38 bit. there under codec setting you’lll have option to select RGB values.

Also these codecs will help you preserve the quality when changing between applications. Usually when REC 709 is selected the output is washed out because it takes the highlight and shadow clipping into account.

Also try to export h.264 format. see if that matches.

    thank you
