Hi, guys! I just wanted to see if anyone knew whether the video FX in this video were made in Sony Vegas or something else. I’ve been trying to learn how to do the looping filmstrip effects and the ripple effect that happen around 33 seconds.

    Here’s the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WPAh8tjvjJU

I’m pretty sure everything in this video is achievable in Vegas, though it may be easier to do with special effects software for a few effects. There’s no obvious way to tell just from watching that video what software was used to edit it, though. Just ask the guy who made it.

How would you make the infinite loop filmstrip effect on Sony Vegas? I left a comment on the original video, but I’m afraid he might not answer due to the fact that he doesn’t have any responses to the comments left on his videos.

You could do that by using multiple video tracks and putting the footage you want on the looping film strip on them and using the track motion and cookie cutter tools to rotate them, put them on the sides of the video, and make them float up and down. Look up those tools and try testing them out.

Why am I not surprised that JR already had this covered in some DOC, post or tutorial somewhere.

At times, I have wondered what the Vegas community would be like without you.

Well, over the years I’ve answered the same questions a lot so every now and then I put together a tutorial for some of the harder ones that are beyond describing in a forum post. What I really should do is go back and make YouTube videos of these so that you can actually see me doing it. (it’s on my todo list) lol

Thank you so much for the kind words but I’m sure some young star would rise up to take my place. I’m a big believer in mentoring. I think we’ve lost the master/apprentice relationship here in the US at least, and it’s important for those who have “traveled the path” to assist others on the journey. I’m not going to take a secrets with me when I die. All I know is available for the asking. Besides… I really enjoy teaching. I had the pleasure to teach a few semesters at Columbia University in NYC recently and I’d love to teach when I retire. It’s just so satisfying to see the “light go on” in someone’s eye when they “get it”. 😉 Knowledge is a wonder gift to be able to give and we can all do it. Thanks again.
