Was something changed or am I missing something?
With regards to how the viewer handles a clip:
In FCP 6 I thought if you did not mark an IN and defaulted to your playhead position.
In FCP 7 in seems like that is lost and if you do not mark your IN than in defaults to the beginning of the clip.
Big difference.
If it is a pref buried somewhere…please enlighten me.

No it always worked that way. No In Point, then FCP defaults to the beginning of the clip if you simply do an Insert Edit.
If you do a Replace Edit then THAT refers to the playhead position in the Viewer.
