Warp Stabilizer with interlaced footage in Premiere Pro CC 2018.1
Hi,
Can anybody help me? We updated our Premiere Pro CC 2015.2 with the 2018.1 version and have problems with the Warp Stabilizer and interlaced footage. The results doesn’t play smoothly, as it was in CC 2015. It messes with the fields and doesn’t do a good job. If I change the fields order to “flicker removal” or “deinterlace”, the result is fine, but if the shot is a fast pano, it doesn’t blend well with the rest of the show, all footage being in 1080i60 (same thing for the timeline).
Tested the same shot with Premiere CC 2015 and all is good. Even tested the same shot with After Effects 2018, and all is good… the glitch is just with Premiere.
I chatted with an Adobe support representative and he told me that they don’t suggest the usage of Warp Stabilizer on interlaced footage, which I always done before.
Any suggestions?

That is rubbish!!
Of course you can use WS on interlaced footage.
I have done this many times in the past.
Make sure your sequence settings match the clips and displaymode is set to upper field.
WS can do wonders it cannot perform miracles.
So a fast pan might be tricky.———————————————–

I did a test with the same shot and the same sequence settings in PPro CC 2015, then in PPro CC 2018 and the playback was way smoother in CC 2015. Also, I took the test shot, applied the WS in CC 2015, then converted the project to CC 2018, then the playback was smooth! If I re-analyze the clip, then it’s no longer the case. So I suspect the analyze proccess fail with interlaced footage in PPro CC 2018 only.
For a final test, I also took the same test shot in After Effects 2018, applied WS VFX, rendered it with upper fields, it plays smooth too.

What you see in the comparison image are no previews, they are the final 1080i60 exports.

The first field seems good, the second field looks like it’s that of the frames after, which makes the playback jerky. -
When playing an interlaced file on a computer which is a progressive screen you need to set the player to a di-interlaced mode.

Hi,
The playback is done on AJA devices (Io 4K or T-Tap) in 1080i29.97 on HDTV monitors. It’s hard to notice on computer screens since it’s progressive and not interlaced.
Right now, the workaround workflow I use is:
– pack all the shots to stabilize in a single timeline
– export to XML
– open in CC 2015
– stabilize the shots
– copy/paste stabilized shots in CC 2018
– tweak stabilizer settings and render in CC 2018Playback is smooth in CC 2018 until the clip length doesn’t change.
If it does and I re-analyze the clip again in CC 2018, playback is no longer smooth. I have to redo the workaround process.Thank you.

Good news, the problem Warp Stabilizer is fixed in the latest release 12.1.2.
