WARNING 10.8.2 update Breaks SxS Driver
Posted by Gary Adcock on September 21, 2012 at 4:05 pmHey everyone.
A quick warning to everyone
The Mountain Lion OSX 10.8.2 update that came out yesterday has broken the Sony SxS driver that is posted for use with the Sonnet Express Thunderbolt adaptor, Reports that other uses are also affected.
It does not corrupt the media or contents of the SxS media- it just will not allow you to copy media from any formatted SxS media ( FAT32 or UDF)
DO NOT UPDATE To 10.8.2 if you are working with Sony SxS media. (10.8.1 works fine)

September 21, 2012 at 9:56 pmJust too late…
I’m working on a movie in Alexa and this morning I found this beautiful surprise!
Fortunately I managed to have my work done and don’t get fired, but I could have been.
Thank you, Apple! I paid three times a PC for my new MacBookProRetina, which is no more 17″, no more opaque, no more DVD able, no more so stable, in short “no more professional” just because osx would have been safer for my job than windows, and now I have to admit that Microsoft is not so bad as everyone say. (Nothing stop to work after running windows update)Sorry for the public complaint, but please understand my frustration today ;p
Anyone knows how to have my Mac copying from SxS card? I hope I don’t have do reinstall my os…I don’t even know where to download the image of MountainLion 10.8.1, which I had on default on my machine, but for which Apple don’t provide an installation disc (or image, or what else)
Please,help me if you can!

September 23, 2012 at 11:06 amThe problem isn’t related to the camera firmware. I can normally manage the media once downloaded from the SxS to an hard drive.
You just can’t move files from SxS media.
(the most curious thing is that I can even play quicktime files on the card)I think this problem due to an incompatibility of Sony SxS driver with some system file in os x 10.8.2 upgrade.

September 30, 2012 at 2:48 pmSo I figured out a temporary fix. If you go into Disk Utility and create a disk image of the whole card. Make your Image Format: read/write, and then have your Encryption: None. This will create a exact copy of the card which can then be opened up and copied over to the computer again. If you use ALEXA Data Manager, that still works with the disk image copy. I know this is a couple extra steps but if you are like me and have no other option, then this is your other option. Sony please update your driver.
Contact me if you need any additional help.

October 31, 2012 at 11:02 pm[Desmond Ford] “Any fix to this yet?
“no, but I have been in touch with both parties and an update is due later in November.
As has been mentioned here, this issue only affects 2012 MBP’s running the latest 10.8.2 & latest TB firmware update.
The current work around is to create a disk image of the contents of your SxS Media then transfer from the cloned card.

This was just posted to CML:
——————————————-
All of a sudden my 17″ macbook pro won’t read SxS cards in the 34 slot.
It appears that 10.8.2 breaks the SxS driver.
Has anyone heard if Sony/Apple are working on a fix?

So it would apear the problem affects older Macs as well.

The Thunderbolt related issue is only on the latest MBP’s.
Michael’s is a different issue that can be fixed by re-installing the drivers when NOT using Thunderbolt.

December 2, 2012 at 5:07 pmI am successfully using the Sonnet TB Express 34 Adapter and Retina with 10.8.2 and the latest Sony drivers to download SxS cards from both the Alexa and F3’s
Using Shotput Pro to Checksum the speed with the Alexa at highest PR444 codec is just slightly longer than real time (to FW800 drive). I’m sure it would be considerablt faster with TB drives. As drop and drag it’s slightly shorter than real time.
Your mileage may vary!
