Warmer sound
Posted by Josh Danning on December 24, 2009 at 5:04 amHi, I’ve been editing some sound clips in Premiere CS4 and am trying to give them more warmth, because they sound a bit metallic/cold. Is there an audio effect that could be of any help? thanks

December 24, 2009 at 3:06 pmHey, yes I tried that but it sounded even emptier and more distant. What I’m hoping to achieve is give it more of that smooth velour-like sound.

December 24, 2009 at 9:43 pmTry a equalizer and play with it, see if you can determine where in the range the sound you don’t like is coming by raising or lowering the low, mid, and high ranges

December 28, 2009 at 7:07 amA sad truth is that the recording contains a lot of this tone you are seeking and it’s hard to correct in some cases with filters. I agree with the EQ suggestion, to a point. If the tinny/coldness is coming from echo, it’s hard to filter out.
One trick I’ve learned with doing VO just about anywhere is to record it with a towel or blanket hanging about two feet in front of the speaker. Speaking directly into it, it will kill a lot of the reflected sound and prevent much of it from leaking back into the room, giving it a warm tone. Also, don’t forget to equalize it on the way into the recording device.
