    Want to migrate from FCP7 to Premiere, need advice.

    I just bought the new 27″ iMac and tried the 30 day trial period of FCPX but in the last few days it’s crashing. I researched the X crashing subject and it seems to be a real problem, complicated to run down the answer. So…I think I will get Premiere but need your advice.

    I am a very basic editor, mainly a DP who lucks into small producing gigs and I nee to be able to do 80% of the post to save money. With FCP I would pass an external drive after I did the rough to someone good at graphics, text, audio sweetening, grading, etc. I do not want to buy and learn those programs.

    In your learned opinion which Premiere package should I buy? Is it as simple as FCP7? Is there a lengthy learning curve for us pseudo editors? Do I get discs from Adobe or is it just a download? At their site below, do I want the $900 Pro package for what I described above?

    You need to get the Production collection that has Premiere in it.

    Have you looked into Adobe Premiere Elements?
    I don’t know if it’s compatible for the hand off for finishing or not but could save a ton of money for you.

    When you hand-off for finishing, what are they using?

    Hi Chris,

    I would be handing it off to editors who use Premiere, many were FCP7 owners who were not thrilled with X, didn’t want to go back to Avid.

    However, as a DP who will not use Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, etc. I just need to do titles, lower thirds, transitions, I don’t feel like spending $1900, FCPX looks better. Elements looks a little too basic though, need something in between. I guess I better give X another look.

    An older version of Pr on ebay maybe?
    That would be cheaper for you.

    Hi Chris,

    I see CS 5.5 on eBay, is that the equivalent of FCP7 in terms of ease of use? Will that work well with the new 27″ iMac?
