Want to animate the upright on a letter “d” – what’s the best way?
I want to achieve the effect of the upright part of a lower-case letter “d” extending upwards. The “d” won’t be isolated, it will be in the middle of a word.
Can anyone suggest the most efficient way of doing this?

I’m not a 100% sure I understand what your asking. I would Create my text. Use the Bezier shape tool to create an extension to the d. Add a Write On behavior to the new shape and it will animate it up. Hope this helps.

You’ve pretty much got it, I think. If you consider the lower-case “d” to be a circle with a line next to it, I want the line to look like it’s growing up and up.
Thanks for the Bezier suggestion, I’ll give it a try.

With the Bezier tool. Just create two points and then hit the return key to close the line. Check the outline check box and adjust the width as needed, that will create a straight line that will be animated once the Write On behavior is added.

I would create the extended “d” in Photoshop… import into Motion, use mask move to reveal the extension…
