when i add an effect to my total project (drag it onto the video preview) all seems well but when i try to change parameters on the effect the effect is affected at that point in the timeline, and not the duration of the video as i would like. how do i remedy this

Go to the key frame for the effect you have created, right click and mark it hold

You’re adding a new keyframe at that point instead of editing the existing keyframe at the beginning of the effect’s timeline. Always click on the desired keyframe to make sure you are adjusting what you think you’re adjusting. (yes, I’ve done this too!)

If you don’t want to mess with keyframes and apply the FX to the whole project (or event, track, etc) turn off the sync cursor which is at the bottom FX dialog and looks like a big letter I and a lock. Then, you have to close and reopen the FX dialog to make the setting “stick” (yes, this is a bug). Now when you apply changes, they apply to the whole keyframe timeline.
