    Hello,

I am wondering if anyone here might be familiar with old Westwood Studios W3d. Models and animations.

I got a trove of models, characters and animations of W3d
that I would love to use in C4d. Not referring to shockwave.

Is there any way possible to utilize, import these into C4d?
And also to maybe export in same format?

Any plug in, app, converter or something.

maybe some process to convert to another format file type that C4d will recognize?

    Thanks for your reply.

3ds files should work both ways.

    ??? these are not 3ds.

I have C4d R10. Would like to use them in C4d.
Are you saying 3ds can use and export them?

    .w3d file type

When I looked at C4d It was said it can import export many file types, but It will not do these or others I have found out.

I like C4d, It has been an eyeopener and easy to use understand for the most part.

I will extract the the .w3d file with all meshes interior exterior, but C4d says unknown file format. .w3d.

So it appears that I would have to open the models into Renx and save as (export) .3ds?

Somehow I dont think this will work but give it try

.w3d is the file extension that Shockwave 3D uses, if you are talking about that there is no direct transfer from C4D (yet, says the rumours) but if this Westwood Studios is another file format…

if you are looking for Adobe Shockwave .w3d translators this is all I know https://www.adobe.com/products/director/3d/3dservices/

Yeah it is the Westwood Studios not the shockwave.

well I just learned I can only export to W3d and .P3d Using Renx/Gmax.
    apps.
No plugins for exporting to .3ds to try and circumvent this.
    (I have found as yet)

I guess I just have to get 3ds if I want to use these, but that seems stupid.Buy another app just to use files to convert.

I can prolly just use Renx/Gmax to do things, But it is not the same.

Can do SO much more with them in C4d with what I have learned so far with it.faster,easier,quicker. Am not wanting to do the game stuff, just want use all the models, animations and have for stock files.

Am still atm looking into this some more.

EDIT: well to add more info, I have learned that licensing allows for importing W3d but not exporting with regard to these files with Discreet(gmax/Renx)found plugins for both RenX and 3ds for importing. Do not have 3ds Max. So, I can use them if I were using 3ds max. lol.

So far the answer is no. less I get 3ds and can export them and then import to C4d.

that looks as if it is for shockwave also.

I am still hoping to maybe figure out a way.
My hopes are not up on the animations (never know), but the models
I am sure I can get them in it, 1 way or another.

I got 3ds 2011 demo, but It appears as though the w3d plugin for 3ds
only works with like versions 5-8 or something.(blah)

I keep having convo’s with a couple other people saying it can be done.
    (but not how)

I got a few more ideas and need to experiment. As far as importing exporting to C4d- in format-not a chance.

But, I am leaning toward that I can get them into C4 in a roundabout way.I will post more when I learn more. Any added info/replies is appreciated.

    Thanks for your replies.
