have you try full resetting and delete cache ? (hold Ctrl+Shift while running VEGAS Pro until dialog box appear and checkmark to delete cache)

Is your problem with a specific .wav file or any wave file? Have you tried another file you know works ok?

Perhaps the Wav is in a unusual format (24-bit, Big-Endian). Open it in MediaInfo (https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo/Download – when you first run it it will offer to become a r.click option in Windows File Explorer – very convenient) and report back.
