Voronoi Fracture and edges
Posted by Mateo Mazzini on May 2, 2017 at 2:25 amVoronoi Fracture by default generates really even edges, simple and clean.
Is there any way to affect the generated edges to be more organic? as if you applied a noise to those edges?
I know that i can deform the resulting geometry with a displacer so its more organic, but I am working with a client which wants the original model not to be affected, but the edges of the cuts to be more curved and random. Thanks!

May 3, 2017 at 9:33 pmI’ve went into this trouble recently. I end up stacking a displacer with a subd and some settings to the voronoi and I got a pretty decent result to what I wanted: check it out just a frame…

apart from the texture, the cuts that make the X are way more organic… If thats more what you’ll want I can send you the file.

May 5, 2017 at 7:28 pmCan you (or anyone) tell me why the ages in the Moroni fractured object are so rounded? I’m trying to crash a block of concrete to the floor and have it break apart – ala a recent Andrew Kramer tutorial. I can break it up, but the edges of the concrete pieces are all smooth and rounded. ????

May 5, 2017 at 8:12 pmVornoi creates a ‘bubble’ around each generation point and the result is where all the bubbles intersect, but the intersections are all flat not curved/rounded. Are you talking about the general shape of the pieces and you would like to see rougher surface where they meet?

May 5, 2017 at 8:16 pmYes, I guess that’s it. If you hit a concrete block with a sledge hammer, you wouldn’t end up with nice, smooth rounded pieces. They’d be jagged and rough. That’s all I want. My pieces look hard-edge until the render, then they’re all smooth and rounded. Strange looking for a “crashed” piece of concrete.

May 7, 2017 at 5:39 pmI don’t think there’s a way to do it with the built-in Voronoi object, but the guy who coded it put that in his NitroBlast 2 plugin. You can see it at around the 4:20 mark of the first video here: https://nitro4d.com/product/nitroblast/
