The shot wasn’t reversed. If you look at left Van Dammes’ ankle at min 0:40 you can clearly see the pants over the shoe. At minute 0:42 the pants border come out of the shoe in a perfect natural way and stay on the ankle.

If the shot was reversed, how could the pants go on the shoe in that way?

Yeah I’ve read a couple of articles where Volvo claim the stunt is real and JCVD was attached to safety wires to ensure he wouldn’t fall, with small platforms mounted on the two mirrors to assist with stability. The trucks going in reverse is (apparently) real too and designed (as Bill points out) to further showcase the Volvos smooth steering, due to the increased difficulty of reversing. The most impressive thing I read about it was that they only had a 15 minute window to shoot in as the sun was rising (or setting maybe, I can’t remember which). Then the whole thing was done in one take. Even if they’re not being entirely truthful about it’s authenticity it’s still an excellent piece of film, and a very good idea too. FWIW though Jackie Chan would have done this for real with no wires back in the day.

[Ben Mullins] ” Even if they’re not being entirely truthful about it’s authenticity it’s still an excellent piece of film, and a very good idea too.”

For sure. I think the concept is brilliant from a marketing/communication standpoint.

    Hi all!
    A quick question here:
the sun is on right (JCVD side) and JCVD have no shaddow on his left side of face! Why? Do they have another car with a light setup maybe?
For me JCVD was shooted on green screen and then added on…but maybe I’m wrong! 🙂
    Sorry for my english!

a few months ago i took a good look and due to the sun rays spilling in-between both trucks even though the sun is not directly behind him, and the fact the sunset exposure is so perfect while everything else is perfectly lit… it’s hard for me to say it’s real. There’s a few other things…. but if it’s real… they most of had the best camera, DP, Gaffer, Colorist ever in the whole universe.
