  • Voice Over tool quits FCP

FCP 6 keeps quitting when I try to use the Voice Over tool.

On the first attempt accessing the Voice Over tool we get the error message: “No sound recording devices connected… they may be in use by another application…” On the second attempt FCP just quits.

    • Working on a MacPro 2x3Ghz Quad-Core with 4GB RAM (OSX 10.4.11)
    • Logitech USB headset as audio input device
    • FCP is/was the only app running
    • Headset appears and works as the “audio output device” when set in A/V Settings in FCP
    • Headset is set as default audio input device in Finder System Settings

Is this an issue with Intel Macs? I’ve never had this problem before.

    Thanks,
    David.

I wish it was this simple. I’ve quit FCP, restarted the computer, unplugged and re-plugged the headset, even tried using a different headset… still no luck.

Tested the same headset on a G5 PowerMac running studio 2 and it worked fine. I dumped the preferences too but made no difference on the MacPro.

Are there drivers for that mic?

Nope, it’s plug-and-play. And works with other apps. I just spent an hour on the phone with apple support and repaired all permissions for the whole system… still the V/O will not work.

The last resort suggestions from apple was to either A. reinstall the entire operating system (which will wipe everything) or B. reinstall the entire FCP suite. Neither sound appealing for a relatively minor feature in FCP.

Has anyone else experienced this issue before??? Does anyone have a MacPro they care to test it on?

    Thank you,
    David.
