Voice Over Tool
Either I’ve missed something obvious or the VO tool operates differently in fcp6.0.3, os 10.5.2! Can someone enlighten me:
I’ve got a mic going into a pre-amp, then an unbalancer and finally into my new MacPro 8-core (just showing off there! 🙂 ). This is exactly the same hardware setup as with my antique(!) 4-core on 10.4 and the mic worked perfectly for guide vo’s. On the new machine, though, there’s barely any level going into the vo tool. Patch the mic into the audio desk and it’s a good level. Look at the level on the sound input tab in system preferences and it registers fine. But vo tool is barely registering…..
All settings are exactly the same as on the older system: 48v phantom power for the mic, line-in on the vo tool. Adjusting the gain makes barely any difference (but there is something so it’s definitely getting into FCP).
Edit:I’ve trashed the FCP settings. Tried just logging out and a restart of the crate… All to no avail 🙁
Edit2: Found it! It would appear that either Apple have ever so slightly changed the hardware design or my machine is a bit unique! The left output of the balancer had the mic on it so my old MacPro used to ‘listen’ to the left channel and that was what was recorded by the vo tool. If I swap the outputs of the unbalancer around so that it gets the mic on the right channel everything works as it used to…. Bizarre!
Anyone else having this trouble or is it me?????
