So I have a client giving me video with music married to the voice track. Raw footage is allegedly unavailable. We need to recut, but that of course will cause horrible jumps in the music.

Is there software available to remove music and leave the voice? I seem to recall this being possible when stripping instrumental backing tracks from vocals. It wasn’t perfect but worked pretty well.

I have also posted under the audio section, thanks!

Short of a NSA level super secret black ops tech device, this is NOT possible. At least not in a way that would make your client happy.

Sure, you can play with EQ, you can do “reverse noise elimination” for the vocals, but holy cow, this will be a mess.

    Good luck.

    Boy, do I know it!
I am just doing my homework before going back with the ‘bad news’!

    Thx Mark –

The trick for vocal removal is phase reverse on one channel of a stereo recording will cancel mono centre panned material like vocals. It is a crap technique barely acceptable for Karaoke.

Getting rid of the music to leave the vocal is not possible.
