I’m addressing this forum with hopes for some answers. I’ve seen the car commercials where the camera goes from a long shot to zooming in to a man and then into his eye. How is this done? I can only imagine AE is involved.

I’m working with a client that wants a view of a building then at a menu choice, zooming into and through the door of the building with the maitre d’ opening the door.

Any helps on this would be great! Thanks!

You can try searching for “Infinite Zoom” and “Earth Zoom” it would be similar technique as those “zoom from outer space to your backyard” shots except horizontal. The major issue we deal with in lower budget versions is hiding transitions between the major effects shots. In the outer space scenes, a cloud, spacecraft, airplane or bird passing in front of the camera provides the cut to the next image sequence.

Good luck, hope you get better advice, just takes planning.

resolution wise, an example using still photos would be:

take a photo from way back.

    Take a photo from mid-distance.

and take a photo right close up.

In after effects, animate each one so they are zooming towards camera (maybe just animate the scale).

then, place each animated photo on a timeline one after another, and animate a cross fade between each one.

It could be tricky to get it all to match up: you are battling against lens distortion, differneces in lighting from each shot, the scene changing in each shot (ie a busy street).

I think this principle can be applied to video, with CG and chromo keys and all the rest, if required.

I have only just started out with AE myslef but I think I have somewhere you can go to get the skills needed.

    Goto https://www.videocopilot.net/tutorials/all/

    Then look at these Tutorials:

    Magic Glass
    Medical Zoom 01
    Medical Zoom 02
    Medical Zoom 03
    Earth Zoom

I would say by combining the skills from each of these you would be able to get the right effect for your client. I would love to see the end result.

    I hope this helps.
