I just bought a computer for my Avid, After Effects, and Photo Shop. The computer came with Vista Home and to use Avid I will have to either upgrade to Vista Business or switch to XP Professional.

My first question is, can I upload XP Professional on a computer that already has Vista?

Secondly, which operating system would be better for editing (avid, after effects, etc) XP or Vista?? I’ve read several different reviews online and don’t know what to do.

    Thanks!

if looking at Vista I would consider Vista 64 since it will give you access to lots more RAM for the applications.

To be honest, the best result I’ve had so far is running on XP x64 pro. Has the memory benefits of the 64-bit operating system and the stability of xp.

One more thing – if you use Sorenson, it won’t work with Vista. We recently had 7 Vista Media Composers re-imaged to XP because of that as well as some other quirky things. XP works well with Avid, Sorenson, AE, PShop… Vista is going away to be replace by Windows 7…

Except Media Composer isn’t certified to run on any 64-bit version of XP, so you’re taking a pretty big risk by doing it. It may run perfectly well, but as soon as you hit a problem you’ll be out of luck with Tech Support because you’re running a non-approved OS.

Media Compsoer 3.x is suported on Vista 64 which is why I offered it as an option in the first place.
