Viewing old Targa video files
Posted by Michael Grote on August 12, 2008 at 8:47 pmHi everyone,
The other week we were going through our old files here in our office & discovered a large number of video files that were done with the old Truevision Targa board. We no longer have the computer or the Targa board and Pinnacle was of no help. What I would like is a software codec that would allow me to run these files on either Final Cut Pro or even Premiere Pro. Any suggestions? Thanks!

The only solution I know of is a Windows solution, which entails installing the one of several of the Morgan codecs from https://www.morgan-multimedia.com. For instance, I have the Morgan LSI codec installed on my Windows machine and it allows me to view files in Windows Player that were captured on my old Targa DTX card using Discreet Edit, and it also allows me to use Procoder to transcode those files to Quicktime for editing in FCP.
Hope this helps…

August 12, 2008 at 9:50 pmHi David,
Thanks for the tip. I tried using the Morgan codec but it still will not run the file. Since the files were captured on Mac system I thought that it might be do to a lack of a extension. G-Spot identifies the file as a quick time so I tried adding a mov to the end, but without success. Any suggestions?

August 12, 2008 at 10:04 pmJust thought I would clarify for everyone that these files were captured on Targa Mac system, if that makes any difference. Thanks.

August 13, 2008 at 2:37 amWhich targa board? Targa 2000? 1000? Cinewave? I think that current Kona boards can read some of the Targa codecs, but maybe only from the Cinewave.
