  • viewing comp contents within a master comp

Posted by Bruce Gaber on June 12, 2017 at 10:36 pm

I have a master comp that comprises four pre-comps. I’d like to be able to view the actual contents of a singe pre-comp within the context of the other pre-comps within the master. But of course when I click on one of the pre-comps it opens to only the contents of that comp. Have I missed something, or is this just how it is?

    Thanks

Hi Bruce, you can select the viewer window and, in View, create a new viewer – thus having two. One will be locked off and the other will change to the current selected comp. Is that what you’re after?

In addition to what greg suggested, look here: https://helpx.adobe.com/after-effects/atv/cs5-cs55-tutorials/ae-cs55-edit-thislook-at-that.html

    Thanks Greg

This is useful. I think I was not very clear in my post. What I want to be able to do is open the layers of a pre-comp within the timeline of the master comp. I often would like to do this to coordinate timing and transitions to the other components in the master comp.

    thanks

Unfortunately this feature doesn’t exist. some users advocate it constantly many years, hoping it will eventually happen. You can ask for it too in Adobe’s wishform page.
