  • Viewing a 2D effect layer with camera outside the main comp?

Posted by Chris Green on January 30, 2009 at 5:26 am

I have a scene with a lot of camera movement, and at the climax of the animation I have a 2d particle layer using particular. For awhile I wasn’t seeing the particles showing up, so I remade them in a separate comp and they worked fine…after scrubbing through the timeline I noticed that I could see the particles in just a few frames near the beginning of my animation, but it was not in the center of the comp window like it should have been. I went to custom view and zoomed out and realized this must be happening because my camera is animating far outside of the main comp area. I didn’t realize this was a problem because my 2D background was still showing up, as was the ramp I had applied to it. Is there a simple fix for this? Re-doing this will be an absolute nightmare. I’m also on a deadline so it’s not really an option 🙁 If someone can help it would be greatly appreciated!!

Have you tried making the 2d background into a 3d layer?

Yeah I did, and I also tried putting the 2D layer into a seperate comp and dragging it in, but then the 2D layer doesn’t maintain the 3D effects. Actually I just figured this out. I was looking through the threads here and found one that was pretty much exactly what I was looking for, and realized that there are separate position coordinates within the particular plugin, so I made a light with no intensity and put it where I wanted the particles to be in the scene, copied the xyz coordinates and placed them into the position in particular and then deleted the light and now it works great 🙂 Thanks for your help!
