Hello everyone and thanks for any input. I am using fcp5 on a g4 powermac and the problem i am having today is when i use my 2nd computer monitor and a preview monitor (view–>video playback–>cinema desktop fullscreen) the preview monitor is all white where my video should be. Better example ok some of my clips and 4:3 some 16:9 when previewing clips in 4:3 the whole screen is white, when playing the 16:9 footy i get black letterbox and all white inside of the letterbox. when i use my tv as the preview monitor (view–>video playback–>apple firewire NTSC 720×480) everything plays back fine no problems. I thought that this could be a problem with the resolution but i have played back in the past on this monitor with no problems and also when using the computer screen and a preview monitor (view–>video playback–>cinema desktop fullscreen) when the screen comes up all white i go to view–>external video, i make sure that this is set to all frames, which it is and then if i click on show current, the image (stoped, not playing) will appear in my perview monitor, as it should, but once i got to play the clip it goes back to white. also when its playing with the white i still get sound with no problems. any ideas or feedback would help, if any as any ideas please share. thank you all!

Hi Tyrell, since I’m having trouble getting FCP 4.5 to recognize my external monitor (exactly as you are succeeding, through the View menu), I stumbled over your post; could it be that your preview monitor settings are set to Alpha instead of RGB? When I turn the canvas settings to alpha, I get a white screen. Good luck.

Hi Michael, I was wondering what preview monitor setting you are changing? Is in in the desktops system preferences or in fcp itself in the system settingd of audio/video settings? I know that my video processing is set to render all YUV material in hight-precision YUV. also I can no longer play video when i set my video playback to> apple firewire ntsc (720×480) and set my external video to> off the timeline will not play it will freeze and I can here sound but the screen remains a still frame of wherever i started from, then once i stop th clip the viewer will show the frame I stoped on as a still image but again once i go to play the clip it will remain still with audio playing until i stop the video again. Anyones help at all the thank sincerly.Thank you.

    Hi Tyrell,

Sorry I kept you waiting and thanks for your note. i’m not really following you about the YUV material issue. My issue is really the difference in behavior between my G4 Powerbook and my MacBook Pro. Viewing full screen on my external monitor (regardless which one – TV or 16:9 flat) was no problem on the G4. FCP doesn’t want to recognize the external screen on the MacBook Pro when full screen playback is selected (in FCP). All other dual screen utilities work just fine (I mean the whole computer and any other apps – I can select the second screen and adjust any way I want in the finder/display settings). This means it’s an FCP issue. The only differences between my workflows are a) MacBook Pro vs. PB G4 and b) OS X 3.9 vs. OS X 5.6 (I suspect this is the problem, but why ?), in both cases using FCP 4.5

Maybe someone can figure this out and spill the real beans. Thanks, Michael.
