  • Viewer and Canvas are black and I can’t find a solution…

Posted by Jake Johnson on January 18, 2008 at 5:47 pm

Hey, I am the assistant editor on a couple of features that are cutting on FCP 6.2.
Today when I got in to the office, I started up the editor’s project, and I am having some playback issues.

The viewer and the canvas are both black. We have a third monitor running via a Blackmagic Decklink HD Extreme card. The third monitor displays only the current frame that the timeline is paused on. I do get audio playback, but the video just is not working.
I checked all of my playback settings, and they are all fine. I have no idea what is causing this, so any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,

    -Jake

This is the obvious response but are you sure the canvas and viewer aren’t set to wireframe mode? On the drop down button on top of these windows make sure they’re set to image or image+wireframe. You can also hit w to cycle through these options…

    Solved it.
The canvas was set to “wireframe” instead of “image+wireframe.”
