View while rendering?
Hi there,
Me again…
Is there any way to make the render update the monitor as it’s performing? Ie, I’m doing some heavy light filtering on some shots which work at points, but not at others. If I was able to see the clip while it was rendering, I’d save a lot of time.
Unfortunately, parking the timeline on the clip to see it frame by frame isn’t an option as it’s movement related. I’m not doing a comparison here – but Avid has this option (can’t remember what the check box is) and it plays 5 frames at a time (ie, it’ll render them, then play them, pause, then render etc etc etc.)
Can FCP do it, or do I just cancel after a couple of minutes and take a look-see?

You’ll need to cancel to see it playback… rendering takes over the system.
However you might try looking at unrendered material using the option+p keyboard command. This will playback unrendered effects and show you playback as fast as your computer can render each frame. Red condition or not…

You can also just step through the effect before you render. You can also use the QuickView window. I find Medium Quality chugs through pretty fast.

Thanks to both of you for your help. I keep forgetting I can set the playback to a really low level to check things. Not always appropriate, but I’ll give it a go and check it out.
