    I’m not sure if there is an automatic setting. One method is to add an adjustment layer to the timeline and apply the RGB Color Corrector or RGB Curves effect to the adjustment layer. Then set two of the three RBG channels to zero.

    That’s certainly a kind of a way of doing it although it’s not the same as actually viewing the grayscale values of channels.

    I was hoping there was a simple view menu option that’s easy to reach – I’m expecting to be able to be able to access them instantly as you can with the alpha channel, as you can for instance in FCP X.

    Or actually I was hoping here as an option you could map onto keystrokes (r,g,b,a) …

    you can do it with a workaround, use the calculations effect and set the input channel to either Red, Green, or Blue
