  • View 4 clips at the same time during multiclip playback?

Posted by Simon Dybeck on April 28, 2007 at 9:46 am

    Hi
I am trying to use a multiclip in a project. I have selected four clips and made them a multiclip so now I can see 4 pictures in the Viewer.

My problem now is that as fast as I push the spacebar to playback the multiclip it starts to view only one of the 4 clips. During playback I can only see the clip that was selected before I pushed Play.

How do I make it show all the 4 clips simulataneously in the multiclip during playback?

    Thanks

Sounds like you’re playing the Viewer. You have to play the Timeline with the Viewer set to Open playhead sync.

i went back to FCP and tried the multiclip that was in the tutorial and everything worked as it should. First I thought i just havent checked the Multiclip Playback button but when I tried the project i was working on it still didnt work. I even tried another random project and made a Multiclip and there it worked perfectly fine.

In the project that I am working on I have only Apple Intermediate Codec clips could that be why it doesnt work?

I’ve not tried it with AIC material, but I don’t see any reason why it wouldn’t work with that. It works with HDV material, which is much more difficult for the processor to play back in real-time.

Are you sure the Timeline window is active when you’re playing back? What you describe is the symptom you get when the Viewer is playing back.

i checked once again, i have the timeline selected and then when i play i can see a full size clip playing in the Canvas, it is the clip that is selected in the multiclip in the Viewer. But the clips in the Viewer doesnt play. When i pause the timeline the pictures in the viewer is updated to the current position.

So instead that the Multiclip is playing all four clips simultaneously it shows only still pictures of the point where i have paused the timeline.

You might try trashing your perfs. I’m sorry I can’t reproduce the problem using AIC files running in a 1080i sequence. Perhaps your drive isn’t fast enough.

thx for your help but i recently got an answer on Apple.com forum that you cant use clips that are Apple Intermediate Codec properly in a Multiclip.
