Videotape Reel – Digitizing
Hi There,
I’ve been given some videotape reels to digitize and unfortunately I’m not familiar with this format, I’m hoping someone here could identify it for me. It’s 1-inch tape, but there are no identifying features on the reel / box to indicate the type. I need to know what type of playback device I need to digitize these to find out if it’s more cost effective to do it myself or to outsource it.

You undoubtedly have “type C” video tape there. It will play back on a variety of Ampex and Sony decks listed on Wikipedia under that topic: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Type_C_videotape
